I have worked in partnership with my local force for many years, but not any more. I’ve worked on Murder investigations (helping the Police catch offenders) and I’ve worked with the Association of Chief police officers after the 7/7 London Bombings, the less said about that the better.I have found a severe lack of give and take from the police in general. They will take – take – take and take some more, but “NOT” give anything back. In order for a relationship to work there must be Give and Take! They really must start to give something back, so that a relationship can be built upon.
Also a lot of forces need to change their procedures; they have a bizarre way of dealing with hate crimes. Most people think that when a hate crime is committed the victim is automatically given a specially trained hate crime officer to investigate their case. This is “not true” they have a queuing system of coppers that takes the next investigation whether it’s a hate crime or not. It’s luck if you get a hate crime officer to investigate their case. The forces need to have a Hate crime unit of specially trained hate crime officer’s that take over an investigation once it’s known or suspected as such.
Gloucestershire Constabulary are the only force I’d be happy to work with.
